Justin Bartha To Co-Star In ‘Sorry For Your Loss’

Bruce Greenwood, Justin Bartha, and Bravo’s Imposters star Inbar Lavi join indie comedy Sorry For Your Loss from Middle Child Films and Farpoint Films. Currently in production in Winnipeg, the pic is being helmed by first-time director Collin Friesen, who also penned the script.

It’s about a new dad, Ken (Bartha) who returns home to bury his estranged father only to have things take a turn for the complicated as the dead man’s final wish is to have his ashes scattered on the field of his beloved football team. Greenwood plays the estate’s executor, Jeff, a slick, politically incorrect salesman who helps Ken with his father’s ashes while secretly courting Ken’s mom.

Middle Child’s Tony Wosk is producing with Kyle Bornais of Farpoint. Jeff Sackman and Berry Meyerowitz are exec producing.

  New Movie: ‘Phoenix’

Daughters of two veteran Hollywood superstars are directing new films. Both Amy Redford and Alison Eastwood, daughters respectively of Robert Redford and Clint Eastwood, have sent out casting notices for films they’re about to helm.

Redford’s film is called “Phoenix,” and already stars Justin Bartha. Constance Zimmer and Olivia Thirlby were attached to “Phoenix” at one time but they may not be anymore.

[..] “Phoenix” is described as “a one-night-stand between two love-averse strangers threatens to disrupt their carefully constructed worlds and sends them on a headlong, spontaneous 4,000-mile journey from Brooklyn to the Grand Canyon and back.” It’s also written by playwright Scott Organ, based on his play.

Two smart women with good pedigrees– we can look forward to seeing these films maybe next fall or winter 2016– at Sundance, I hope.

CBGB co-writer / director Randall Miller continues to stuff his film full of actors. Though the cast list is already bulging with a blend of big-name and indie talent, he’s added another, with The Hangover’s Justin Bartha signed to play Stiv Bators.

The film charts the birth and rise of the legendary New York music spot, which spawned the likes of the Dead Boys, Blondie, the Ramones and Television.

Alan Rickman is leading the cast as CBGB founder Hilly Kristal with Ashley Greene as his daughter. Malin Akerman, Rupert Grint, Johnny Galecki, Taylor Hawkins, Stana Katic, Joel David Moore, Estelle Harris and Kerry Bishe are all aboard playing various real life music folk (and, in the case of Harris, Kristal’s mother, Bertha).

Bartha will be Stiv Bators, the lead singer of the Dead Boys, who died in 1990.

Miller starts everything rolling next month in Georgia before shifting to New York to complete filming. There’s no word yet on when we’ll see the finished product, though we’d expect it to be damaging cinema sound systems some time next year. (source)
